Canada does have Interac E-Transfer, which is already used as a free alternative to the likes of PayPal. It is also possible to use e-transfer for business transactions. An e-transfer system similar to Alipay where you scan a QR code to pay would be quite handy to make payments at stores. Would it be possible for credit card merchants to use e-transfer for their transactions?
I’m not against a consolidated name that fully encapsulates the ActivityPubiverse, and still think that is important to driving people in. Fediverse is probably sufficient enough for the time being. But user activity begins when users can interact with it, so perhaps introducing instances as ‘lemdro.id, a Lemmy platform’ or something of that ilk could achieve that. That way, it’s not seen as a competing standard, just an implementation of one. Then, as users become more familiar with the ecosystem, the hierarchy and segments could be learnt over time if they choose to do so.
Perhaps right click on the sidebar -> disable compact mode? I haven’t had any issues moving tabs between windows, but then again I keep the sidebar persistent

What about an Android tablet running a custom ROM without GApps flashed, and an adapter for HDMI? There’s a handful of widely sold tablets that also have a decent development scene and are cheap second hand. Check XDA forums for various models before deciding which one to get
I bought my ThinkPad a fair bit before yours, but I can’t imagine replacing my T450s either. The dual batteries, TrackPoint, and sheer number of ports is something most modern laptops just don’t include. Ten years old and still running beautifully thanks to Linux (Fedora 41 Gnome). If I do end up leaving it, I’ll be getting something a few years newer, like the T470p. But it’s a no for new ThinkPads :/
